Santa Not Coming to Calgary in 2007

…at least, not for the parade.

Downtown construction has cancelled the annual parade that brings out thousands of people every winter. The Calgary Downtown Association, which organizes the Santa Claus parade, said Tuesday that construction and road closures made it impossible to keep the tradition going this year.

It’s just as well, as the reindeer are all off in the oilpatch, and the elves are busy framing houses in Airdrie.

Airdrie had a Santa Clause parade yesterday. I have to say that I enjoyed it more than the Calgary one the Year before. The turnout was huge, yet they seemed to some how make sure that every kid got a candy cane. ( I can’t even begin to guess how many thousands of candy canes they must have gone through). Aparently, they have a huge Christmas display every year as well. I googled it, they have a website http://www.airdriefestivaloflights.com It looks like a lot of fun, so we will probably go visit Airdrie again for that.
